SmartLipo™ involves the introduction of a laser under the skin through a 1 mm incision to melt the fat and destroy the fat cells. The laser coagulates the small blood vessels so that bruising is kept to a minimum. The liquefied fat is then aspirated through the same incisions and the body contour is sculpted.
SmartLipo™ is less invasive than traditional liposuction and does not require general anesthesia. Skin tightening is performed at the same time to lessen wrinkly or sagging skin in problem areas. Oral sedation and pain relief are provided pre operatively in addition to “tumescent” local anesthesia and the patient can watch TV or listen to music during the laser liposuction procedure. Complications are minimal and patients usually return to work the next day. The procedure is safer when done under local anesthesia by a qualified laser liposuction surgeon, and allows the patient to ambulate immediately. Results are seen prior to leaving the office and full results are visible at 6 weeks to six months following the procedure.
