Spider Vein Treatment

Spider Vein Treatment

If you're seeking spider vein treatment, whether sclerotherapy or laser spider vein therapy, it's important to understand what spider veins are and what spider vein treatment alternatives are available.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are tiny bluish or reddish surface veins. They often appear on the legs and/or face resulting from increased pressure in the vein system. Several factors influence the formation of spider veins, including heredity, hormonal changes, and pregnancy. You should probably expand on this to at least double the current word count.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is used to treat both spider veins and certain types of varicose veins. Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a special medication into the diseased vein which causes it to close off. Here at our center in New Jersey, we use an FDA-approved drug called Sotradecol (sodium tetradecyl sulfate). Sotradecol is a pain free spider vein treatment unlike saline injections, which are used by many other clinics.

Most patients describe minimal itching and burning for 5-15 minutes following sclerotherapy, but you will leave the office free of discomfort. You will feel the prick of the needle being inserted into the skin. However, we use the tiniest needles possible to reduce the discomfort felt by our patients. If you are very concerned about pain, please talk to Dr. Seaver or Nurse Camp. They will be more than willing to discuss some possible solutions.

"Very happy.  It's working and I'm already seeing results though I know I won't see total results for about 6 months."

Most people who have spider veins also have diseased veins which "feed" the spider veins. Here at our center, we make every effort to treat the underlying problem, as well as providing spider vein treatment. By treating the underlying veins, the chances of recurrence are much lower.

If we are able to treat the "feeder" veins effectively, you may require only one or two treatments. However, if you have a more severe problem, such as numerous spider veins over a larger area, we may require 3-5 sessions to take care of you. These are spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.

You do not need to take time off from work. You may resume normal activities immediately after the treatment wearing compression hose for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
