VeneFit™ is similar to ELT except the vein is closed by use of a radiofrequency generator that creates heat to literally close the vein. It can be used for closure of abnormal perforating veins.
What Is the VeneFit™ Procedure?
The VeneFit™ procedure is a minimally invasive therapy used to treat varicose veins. The procedure results in little or no scarring and is generally performed under a local anesthetic with or without sedation. The VeneFit™ procedure is usually covered by most insurance plans.
A New Way to Remove Diseased Veins
Using an endovenous RadioFrequency ablation technique, the procedure involves using a thin tube to apply radiofrequency energy to heat a vein. The thermal energy, in turn, collapses the diseased vein and seals it shut, allowing the blood to be directed through healthy veins in the venous network.
This kind of procedure replaces traditional techniques, such as vein stripping, which involve tying off one end of a vein before removing it. These procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia. This means vein stripping is more costly, as it must be performed in the operating room of a hospital or medical facility.
Patients who opt for the VeneFit™ procedure are usually treated in under an hour and will undergo the procedure as an outpatient in our office. Most patients experience instant relief from their vein disease symptoms and can resume their daily activities immediately following the therapy. Patients experience only a quick pinprick of a sensation during this part of the process.
A Quick and Painless Procedure
Typically, the doctor will use ultrasound to map the vein slated for removal. Using ultrasound, the doctor guides the thin catheter tube and delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy via a tiny fiber cable to the vein. The thermal heat that is produced collapses the vein and seals it shut. Once the catheter has been removed, a bandage is placed at the entry site.
To speed up recovery, the doctor will recommend that you wear a gradient compression stocking for about a week after the VeneFit™ procedure is performed. It is also a good idea to take a 15-minute walk to promote circulation after the treatment. You should also avoid any strenuous workouts for a couple of weeks after the therapy.
If you do experience any discomfort after the procedure, normally an over-the-counter, non-aspirin pain reliever will alleviate any discomfort. A follow-up appointment is typically scheduled a week after the treatment to ensure that the vein has remained closed.
